چکیده

Phospholipids of Tenebrio molitor larvae were separated on columns of DEAE -cellulose and silicic acidHyflo Super Cel. The major phosphatide components were identified by various analytical procedures. Phosphatidyl choline was demonstrated to be the predominant phospholipid with a high percentage of phosphatidyl ethanolamine. A small amount of inositolcontaining phosphatides were present. Phosphatidyl serine was undetectable but an unknown amino .acidcontaining phosphatide comprised one of the fractions. Evidence is also presented for the existence of a choline -containing sphingolipid. The results show that the phospholipid pattern was similar to those of other insects. /tfl

Effects of dietary replacement of fishmeal by yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) larvae meal on growth performance, hematological indices and some of non-specific immune responses of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

8-week feeding trial was conducted for juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to determine the optimal amount of Tenebrio molitor meal (TM) that could replace fishmeal in feeds without reducing growth performance, hematological indices and non-specific immune responses. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with TM replacing 0% (Control), 25% (TM25), 50% (TM50), 75% (TM...

The Role of the Thermal Hysteresis Factor in Tenebrio Molitor Larvae

The haemolymph of larvae of Tenebrio molitor contains a factor which produces a thermal hysteresis (a difference between the freezing and melting points) of approximately 0-75 °C. When larvae were acclimated to low temperatures or short photoperiod the thermal hysteresis increased more than twofold. Coincident with the increase in thermal hysteresis the supercooling points and lower lethal temp...

Tenebrio molitor Larvae Inhibit Adipogenesis through AMPK and MAPKs Signaling in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes and Obesity in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

Despite the increasing interest in insect-based bioactive products, the biological activities of these products are rarely studied adequately. Larvae of Tenebrio molitor, the yellow mealworm, have been eaten as a traditional food and provide many health benefits. Therefore, we hypothesized that T. molitor larvae might influence adipogenesis and obesity-related disorders. In the present study, w...

Self-selection of two diet components by Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) larvae and its impact on fitness.

We studied the ability of Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) to self-select optimal ratios of two dietary components to approach nutritional balance and maximum fitness. Relative consumption of wheat bran and dry potato flakes was determined among larvae feeding on four different ratios of these components (10, 20, 30, and 40% potato). Groups of early instars were provided with a ...

Evaluation of Genotoxicity and 28-day Oral Dose Toxicity on Freeze-dried Powder of Tenebrio molitor Larvae (Yellow Mealworm)

The larval form of Tenebrio molitor (T. molitor) has been eaten in many countries and provides benefits as a new food source of protein for humans. However, no information exists regarding its safety for humans. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the genotoxicity and repeated dose oral toxicity of the freeze-dried powder of T. molitor larvae. The genotoxic potential was evaluate...
